THOMASS PEACE GARDEN
The project includes designs for steel gates,
railings and plaques for a new garden of
peace developed amidst the ruins of St Thomas's
Church, Birmingham. The imagery used in
the gates, railing and plaques embraces
peace in very broad terms. It considers
peace in contrast to war, as equality between
different racial groups and in ecological
terms.
The commission involved the artist working
with students from Lea Mason Church of England
Secondary School, who initiated the concept
of the project in the first instance. A
number of other groups including the Birmingham
Inter faiths Council, The Junior Chamber
of Commerce and Ex- Servicemen's groups.
